Just a Few Thoughts

  • Nicholas loves, loves being outside!  Like, stand at the door pointing and whining to go outside.
  • It is really bright outside for Nicholas.  Who knows how often, if ever,  he was outside in China, but he won't wear sunglasses and just squints and squints.
  • Joseph is still not so sure of having a baby brother.  One minute he's saying, "Don't hurt my baby brother!"  while buckling the car seat and then the next minute he's saying, "Mommy, I don't need a baby brother to play with, I have you."  (Awww)  Oh, yeah, he's already asked me to take him back home.  When I told Joseph Nicholas did not have a home, he said, "no, I mean take him to his house."
  • Nicholas and Joseph are very competitive for Mom's attention.  They push each other away when one gets too close to Mom and Nicholas is very jealous when Joseph sits on Mom's lap.
  • Joseph has literally passed out every night since Nicholas has been home.  Last night he fell asleep face-down on his pillow.  Tonight he was asleep in 5 seconds when he laid on the couch.
  • Nicholas is a little clown.  He laughs all the time and if he catches you laughing at something he's doing he'll do it over and over again.  He babbles all the time and sings a lot to himself.
  • No, I do not know if he is saying any Chinese words. :)
  • The first week has been pretty amazing.  Other than the dogs and he DOES NOT want to sleep in his crib and brother jealousy, everything has been pretty smooth.  Nicholas is gaining more and more independence each day and now doesn't look back every time he walks away.  Now I'll have to watch when he "sneaks" away what he's up to.  Next week starts the battle of the crib and sleep schedule.  He's just gonna have to cry it out -- I mean scream it out.
  • Which reminds me, Nicholas gets more mad than upset.  A lot more screaming because he's not getting his way rather than crying 'cause he's sad he's not getting his way.  He's got a mean temper!
  • Nicholas got a clean bill of health.  Now we'll need some labs run and we're gonna go to the Cleft Team at Children's in a few weeks and we'll go to the International Clinic if necessary after the Cleft Team checks him out!
